Day 1: Arequipa - Chivay

We travel to the national reserve of "Salinas y Aguada Blanca," where we will see South American camelids like vicuñas, llamas, and alpacas. At 4910 mamsl we stop to visit the "Mirador de los Volcanes" to view the volcanic mountain range and then we continue to Chivay for lunch.

Day 2: Chivay - Arequipa

We'll head to the Cruz del Cóndor lookout after breakfast. We make a pit stop in Yanque en route to see an exhibition of regional crafts and the "wititi," or Colca's regional dance, which UNESCO has recognized as part of its intangible cultural heritage. We travel further through the beautiful valley, passing through lovely, old-fashioned villages, and arrive at roughly 8:15 am. We will have the chance to witness the majestic flight of the endangered condors, enormous Andean birds that serve as both a representation of the Andes Mountains and of Andean culture. The viewpoint's view enables us to fully comprehend the canyon's size, which is what makes it one of the world's deepest canyons (4160m).

Colca Canyon:

The Colca Valley is home to vibrant little towns where native people continue to practice their ancient customs through celebrations, handicrafts, and agricultural terraces. Chivay, the largest settlement in the valley, is where you can visit the La Calera hot springs. In addition, Colca Canyon is home to numerous endangered species of animals, such as enormous hummingbirds, vicuñas, Mountain Caracaras, vizcachas, and of course the Andean Condor, which is frequently spotted from the “Cruz del Condor lookout” and are one of the largest flying birds in the world. From there you can get stunning views of the deep canyon and enjoy a lovely landscape.

Great experience. I loved the huge stones in Sacsayhuaman, and the mixed religions and tales the guide shared.
