Explore the Inca citadel with time. It takes about 3 and a half hours to get there from Cusco, so breaking the journey into a 2-day tour is ideal. The first day you will enjoy the train journey along the Sacred Valley and explore Aguas Calientes village. After spending the night there you visit Machu Picchu in the early morning where it is less crowded. We come back to Cusco after lunch by a train and then by road.

Itinerary

Day 1: Cusco – Aguas Calientes

07.00 am We pick up from your hotel in Cusco and take you to the train station, to take the 07.00 am train, Expedition or Vistadome (upgrade).

First you will travel towards Ollantaytambo station by road for about 2 hours. The train company includes this ride. Then you continue by train for 1 and a half hours towards Aguas Calientes town. You will travel along the Sacred Valley of the Incas, with beautiful landscapes composed of huge mountains and the Urubamba river that runs along the way.

Arrival at 12.11 pm. Finally at Aguas Calientes town, staff from your hotel will pick you up and lead you to their location. Ready for a delicious meal, you will enjoy of the pleasant climate and the charming village. It has many restaurants to taste Peruvian food.

The afternoon is free to enjoy the village. Among the attractions are the hot springs, the local Machu Picchu museum (Manuel Chavez Ballon), the hands & crafts market, Mandor botanical garden (1 hour of walking, 2km away), Machupicchu butterfly farm. Or you can request an extra ticket to visit Machu Picchu and explore on your own; it is also required roundtrip buses to get there.

Overnight: Aguas Calientes at a 3-star hotel. You can also request an upgrade.

From January to April the departure is from Wanchaq station and a bus is taken to Ollantaytambo and the train is taken from there towards Machu Picchu.

Day 2: Aguas Calientes - Machu Picchu - Cusco

06.00 am: We get going early this morning. We pick you up from your hotel and we go to the bus station to make a line to take the bus.

For about 40 minutes, we will ride the bus up the mountain to Machu Picchu. The guided tour, which lasts for approximately two and a half hours, begins when we arrive.You'll have the opportunity to visit Inca temples. In addition to sacred fountains, they constructed a number of temples dedicated to the sun, moon, stars, lightning, rainbow, puma, condor, and other natural phenomena.You will return to Aguas Calientes for lunch following the tour. After lunch you must go to your hotel and pick up your luggage, then go to the train station 30 minutes before the train departure.According to availability we will use the 03.20 pm or the 04.22 pm train. 

You will travel back to Ollantaytambo station for one a a half hour, and from there continue by road for 2 hours back to Cusco City. We will pick you up from the Cusco City  station, and take you to your hotel. End.

Extra hikes

Request a reservation to lunch next to Machu Picchu at Belmond Sanctuary Lodge hotel, in the Tinkuy restaurant. This way you don’t have to take the bus back to Aguas Calientes for a meal.Additionally you have hike options to Wayna Picchu or Machu Picchu mountain, buying an additional ticket.
From January to April the train departure is from Wanchaq station and a bus is taken to Ollantaytambo and from there begins the train journey.There are two train options that depart and arrive at the same time. The Expedition train, called the tourist train, is comfortable and has affordable prices. The Vistadome is a panoramic train with upgraded services and wide windows to enjoy the scenery better. Also includes snacks and hot drinks along the way. The prices are not more expensive though. On the way back the Vistadome includes a fashion show and a folk dance show.

The train departs later than other trains on day 1, and arrives later than other trains on day 2. Please consider this timing for your travel plans.
