Inca Trail 4 Days

Your adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. After traveling through the Sacred Valley, you'll arrive at Kilometer 82, the official starting point of the Classic Inca Trail.

Following the permit checkpoint, the hike begins with a relatively gentle section alongside the Urubamba River. This first day allows your body to adjust to the altitude while offering incredible views of snow-capped peaks and traditional farming communities.

One of today's highlights is the archaeological site of Llactapata, where your guide will explain its importance within the Inca Empire and how it supported travelers along the royal road.

The afternoon brings a gradual climb toward Wayllabamba, a peaceful valley surrounded by towering mountains. Here you'll enjoy your first campsite, a freshly prepared dinner, and a relaxing evening beneath the stars.

Today is the most physically demanding day of the trek.

After breakfast, the trail climbs steadily through lush cloud forest before reaching alpine vegetation. As you gain elevation, spectacular mountain views reward every step.

Eventually you'll arrive at Warmiwañusca, commonly known as Dead Woman's Pass, standing at 4,215 meters (13,828 feet). Reaching the highest point of the Inca Trail is a memorable accomplishment and one of the defining moments of the journey.

Following a well-deserved break, the trail descends into the Pacaymayo Valley, where you'll spend the second night surrounded by dramatic Andean scenery.

Many hikers consider the third day the highlight of the Classic Inca Trail.

The morning begins with a climb to the second mountain pass before reaching the circular archaeological site of Runkurakay. Continuing along beautifully preserved Inca pathways, you'll explore Sayacmarca, an impressive ceremonial center perched dramatically on a mountain ridge.

As the day continues, the scenery shifts into lush cloud forest filled with orchids, moss-covered trees, and colorful birds.

You'll also visit Phuyupatamarca, often translated as "The Town Above the Clouds," before descending an impressive series of original Inca stone steps toward Intipata and finally Wiñay Wayna.

This spectacular archaeological complex is one of the finest examples of Inca agricultural engineering and serves as the final campsite before reaching Machu Picchu.

The final day begins before sunrise.

After a short walk to the final checkpoint, you'll continue toward Inti Punku, the famous Sun Gate. As daylight gradually illuminates Machu Picchu, you'll enjoy one of South America's most iconic views.

Descending into the citadel, your guide will lead a comprehensive tour of Machu Picchu, explaining its temples, terraces, astronomical significance, religious ceremonies, and remarkable engineering.

After the guided visit, you'll have free time to take photographs and appreciate the beauty of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Later, you'll travel by shuttle bus to Aguas Calientes before boarding the train to Ollantaytambo, where private transportation returns you to Cusco.
